Sarasota Veterinarian, Dr. Anne Luther, is passionate about her love of animals and helping them live the happiest, healthiest lives possible.
She strongly believes in working closely with her clients to provide the best possible care for their best friends. Her compassion and warmth are what make her stand out as a veterinarian. She has studied extensively, both conventional and holistic methods in order to provide the best possible care for her patients.
Dr. Anne’s interest in integrative medicine began due to health issues of her own, which were not being treated successfully by conventional methods.
The life changing experiences she had using a variety of holistic therapies convinced her that she could not just offer conventional treatments to the animals under her care. A traditionally trained veterinarian who earned her DVM at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985, Dr. Anne always sought alternatives for herself but never really considered them for animals until her dramatic experience with her own illness. After this, she committed herself to mastering the art and science of integrating holistic methods of treatment with conventional veterinary medicine. This is often referred to as “integrative medicine” where both types of therapies are combined for the best possible outcome. She believes in the powerful curative effect of combining the best of both worlds.
In an effort to provide the best holistic care possible, she studied many different methods of alternative care.
She studied classical homeopathy with world-renowned author and teacher, Dr. Richard Pitcairn, founder of the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy and coauthor of Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats.
She studied Tui Na and Acupuncture at the Chi Institute with Dr. Huisheng Xie, DVM, PhD who is a third generation practitioner of Chinese Medicine. Dr. Xie is a respected instructor in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), and is currently an associate professor at the Integrative Medicine Service at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Xie has lectured on veterinary acupuncture and herbal medicine around the world, and has authored 18 books and over 100 scientific papers.
She also studied Chinese Herbal Medicine with Dr. Steve Marsden, co-founder of Edmonton Holistic Veterinary Clinic who is considered by many to be the foremost holistic veterinary practitioner in the world. Dr. Marsden holds a Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, is Board certified in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and also holds a Doctorate in Naturopathic and Veterinary Medicine. He is the co-author of the bestseller, Manual of Natural Veterinary Medicine: Science and Tradition. He teaches students allover the world and in 2010, the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association named him teacher of the year. Dr, Marsden also created an animal line of products for the Kan Herb Company, an international leader in superior Chinese herbal formulas.
Dr. Luther also completed a year of study at the California College of Ayurveda, the oldest, state-approved college in the West offering training in Ayurvedic Medicine. Ayurvedic Medicine is one of the the oldest known forms of medicine in the world. Ayurvedic medicine incorporates diet, lifestyle, and herbs to treat many chronic conditions.
Dr. Anne integrates all of these holistic therapies with her extensive knowledge of conventional medicine and surgery into an overall program for the sick animal. She has had extraordinary success treating cancer and other serious degenerative diseases that are rapidly on the rise among animals as well as humans.
Dr. Anne’s years of intense study and experience, coupled with her sense of intuitively “knowing” what is wrong with the animal, have allowed her to master the art and the science of diagnosis and treatment. Combined with her gentle, compassionate nature, you and your pet will feel right at home at Sarasota Animal Medical Center.
