Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that we’re leaving 2019 behind and rolling into the 20’s. Today, many people are thinking about their goals for the coming year. We can’t really offer tips on choosing resolutions, other than striving to be happy and healthy, of course. However, we can suggest a few things to put on your dog’s 2020 agenda! A Sarasota, FL vet lists some of them below.
Go To The Beach
Florida’s white sand beaches can be just as fun for dogs as they are for us. Just put Fido’s comfort and safety first. In summer, visit the shore in the mornings or evenings, when it’s a little cooler out. Bring plenty of water with you, and avoid spots with strong currents. Paw care is also important. Keep your furry pal on soft ground as much as possible, and use paw balm to protect his paw pads.
Learn Something New
If Fido doesn’t know basic obedience commands yet, make finishing his petucation a priority this year. Otherwise, move on to advanced training, or show your pup some cute tricks.
Strike A Pose
One great thing about living in the smartphone age is that it’s now really easy to get amazing pet photos. Snap some pictures of your four-legged friend this year!
Visit A Park
Dogs love exploring new places, and they really benefit from the activity and change of scenery. Take your pooch to a pet-friendly park! Some good options are Bird Key, 17th St. Paw Park, and Arlington Park. Try different ones and see which ones you and Fido like best.
Have A Snack
There are now several dog-friendly restaurants and cafes in the Bay area. Find a new local spot, and enjoy one of those gorgeous sunsets with your canine buddy. You can also take Fido to a pet store or doggy deli for a treat.
Enjoy A Cold Treat
Those scorching Florida summer days are perfect for enjoying frozen treats with your pup! You can find doggy ice cream at many grocery stores and pet stores. Or, make your own by freezing cooked, boneless meat, fish, or chicken; kibble; or broken dog treats in sodium-free broth in ice cube trays.
