4 Ways To Keep Your Cat Happy And Healthy

September 1, 2021

September is Happy, Healthy Cat Month! Of course, kitties deserve to be happy and healthy all the time. Actually, it turns out that many of the things that will keep your furry buddy healthy will also keep her happy. A local Sarasota, FL vet lists some of them below.

Good Food

Proper nutrition is key to your kitty’s health and well-being. Get Fluffy a nourishing, high-quality pet food, one that is appropriate for her age and activity level. It’s very easy to overfeed a cat, so don’t be meowpulated. Ask your vet for specific advice, including tips on portion control and suitable treats.

Safe Environment

Cats are very curious by nature, which is one of their cutest traits. However, Fluffy can get into quite a lot of trouble if she is allowed to overindulge her sense of adventure. We recommend keeping your kitty safe and sound indoors, where she is protected from cars, weather, predators, and other hazards. Some catproofing may be in order, particularly if you have a young, feisty feline. Ask your vet for more information.

Entertainment

Kitties may seem like they really enjoy doing as little as possible, but they do need some form of entertainment. Window seats, cat furniture, and background noise will all entertain your kitty. Fluffy will also need plenty of toys, and perhaps some pet-safe plants to sniff at. We also recommend taking a few minutes a day to play with your feline friend.

Veterinary Care

Fluffy may not exactly be thrilled about her appointment, but she’ll be much healthier—and therefore happier—with good veterinary care. Keep up with your kitty’s veterinary care needs! We recommend that all of our feline patients be fixed, microchipped, and kept current on their exams, vaccines, and parasite control. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Love And Cuddles

The secret ingredient in any good kitty care routine? Love! Make sure Fluffy feels safe, cared for, and perhaps a little bit spoiled. Talk to her, pet her, and let her snooze on your lap if she likes. Even aloof kitties tend to respond well to attention, affection, and TLC. It’s hard not to smile when your feline pal starts purring as you pet her or hold her!
