February 17th is Random Acts Of Kindness Day! This is one message we’re happy to help spread. It’s been a rough few years, to say the least. Doing little things to spread kindness can be a wonderful mood booster. It feels great to know you’ve helped someone out! There are definitely plenty of things that you can do with and for our animal companions. A Sarasota, FL vet lists some of them below.
Volunteer
Florida has thousands—if not millions—of homeless pets. There are many rescue organizations doing everything they possibly can to help them. Consider volunteering at one of them. You can also look into donating money or supplies.
Habitat Help
While we of course focus on pets, we also do care about wild animals. Consider doing a few things around your property to help our local critters. If you have room, put up a bat house or a bird house. You can also install a bird feeder or birdbath. Or, put in some plants that will attract and feed birds, bees, and butterflies.
Foster
Even if you aren’t ready to adopt right now, you can still help homeless pets. Consider looking into fostering pets. While this isn’t for everyone, it can be very rewarding. It’s also a wonderful way to make a difference!
Litter Pickup
Litter isn’t just unsightly. It’s also very dangerous for wild animals. Do a little cleanup duty around your neighborhood. Or, hit the beach and help clean up there.
Adopt A Fish
Adopting a small goldfish or betta fish won’t change the world, but it will change the world for that one small animal. Just be sure to do some research about habitat requirements.
Turtle Awareness
When sea turtles hatch, they instinctively follow the moon into the ocean. As you may know, many house lights and street lights throw them off. This is why many conservation groups ask people to help keep the coastline dark. Turtle hatching season is still a ways off. (It’s May through October.) However, it’s never too soon to start spreading the word.
Help Pets Find Homes
Pet adoptions shouldn’t really be random: it’s a major decision. However, if a cute homeless pet randomly comes across your path, do what you can to help them. Kindness matters!
